i'm pretentious
I was at a function today with a few hundred disabled people, and about four other people had service dogs (some were SDITs). This made me aware of something. I'm incredibly pretentious! The working dogs were over weight, the one in training (I think it was) barked, and worst of all, I think two of them were there illegally. The ONE I really wanted to see, I didn't even get a glimpse of. There was a freaking therapy dog there! I hope they got permission to bring her. She was very well behaved, kudos to them, but hi, therapy dog's don't have public access. The other had just been diagnosed w/ a neuro muscular disease and in the same breath as telling me it is too much for her to be in public, they tell me they are leaving to go get her!!! I don't know. I just, must have really high standards. The one guy was yanking his lab around, and it really upset me...but they were not from my organization, so I blew it off. Later on I saw someone who was in our program, doing leash corrections and of course the dog didn't respond, because she had no clue what tugging and dragging her by the leash meant! I know Winston isn't perfect, he sniffs the air a ton ton ton. And I am by far not a perfect handler, but come on people these are basic things!! Okay, sorry, just had to get that off of my chest...

Scratching Board & Summer Photos
It has been entirely too long since I have updated!! Things have been busy around here with some legal issues. Who wants to hear about that though!! On to more important things!
After ordering a dremmel I realized I will still need a LOT of assistance using it and therefore, it isn't really making life any easier! Over lunch one afternoon at SSD everyone was discussing using a Scratching Board to wear down the out of control dogs nails. This sounded very appealing to me, and even after grilling them for info, I was intriged. The idea was put on the back burner for a few weeks because of the legal issues, and I continued to work with Winston on the dremmel. Well, the night of my birthday, our Puppy Raiser Coordinator presented me with a hand crafted Scratching Board!! IT IS SO GORGEOUS!!! Well, back to the point at hand, free shaping a paw target is going GREAT! He just started scraping his paws, which is the EXACT motion he needs to do in order to file his nails! It was a great training experience, that he and I both enjoyed. Other than that, training has been really average lately!
To wrap up the summer I thought I post some great shots that i've gotten of him! <3 Enjoy!
Winston loves when we do basic obediance outside, he gets goofy!
Smiling for a "down/stay"
I went inside, made some phone calls, and cought a great shot of him waiting in his "stay" on my way back to release him!
We had our end of the summer bath on such a beautiful afternoon! Before and after my mom bathes him, I like to brush him really good. There are some of my favorite photos of him! He just looks so cute up on the table!
Alright, that's all! Happy Fall to everyone!
